What guides us

Our work rests on three foundations: Maria Montessori's understanding of the child, J. Krishnamurti's inquiry into learning and living, and the Nai Taleem of Gandhiji and Vinoba Bhave, where learning grows from the work of the hands and the life of the community. We keep learning, and we also find depth in Waldorf education and Sri Aurobindo's Integral Education.

The child

Respect for each child's own potential and pace. Adults prepare the room, observe, and learn when to step in and when to step back.

Hands and community

Learning rooted in the work of our hands and in service to the community around us.

The land

Children learn from soil, trees, rivers and the people who care for them. We try to live in a way that does not harm them.

Inquiry

Inquiry into oneself and the world. Learning and unlearning are first for the adults: our teachers and parents.

"We intend to stay small enough to care, humble enough to learn, and connected enough to be accountable to the land and community we inhabit."
